Job Description

We are looking for an Event Coordinator for the upcoming Oakland Chimaek Festival. We estimate roughly 60 vendors & 1 headlining artist to be present at the festival with roughly 10,000 attendees. The Event Coordinator is responsible for gathering vendor & artist interest, managing the permitting process for each vendor, and helping coordinate the vendors & artist on the day-of the event.

Our ideal candidate has prior Event Coordinator experience (or similar), cares deeply for their community, builds great relationships, and is highly organized. Since we raise funds for small business events on a regular basis, there is a strong potential for future opportunities.


What’s the Chimaek Festival?

The Chimaek Festival is a Korean fried chicken & beer festival held annually in May in the Jack London District of Oakland, California. The festival is growing fast in popularity & international support. The festival is truly designed to bring people together: Chimaek offers a unique picnic-style experience with world-renowned chicken, craft beer, live music, and outdoor games. We are estimating 10,000 attendees, 60+ vendors, and a $250k economic impact on Oakland.

 
 

Who Are Build Up HQ & Dokkaebier?

Build Up HQ is the Head Organizer of the event. Put simply, we make the festival a reality. We are contracted by Dokkaebier, the Event Host. We organized the event this year and were asked to organize the event again next year. We care deeply about Chimaek because of the large-scale, positive economic and social impact Chimaek has on the community.

Dokkaebier is a Korean craft beer company. Their brewery is located in the Jack London District, is one of few Asian-owned craft breweries in the United States, and are big believers in building up the community. Youngwon Lee is the CEO. He’s a good-spririted person, fun to be around, and believes in bringing people together across all cultures - Chimaek is his way to do this.


Job Responsibilities

  • Identify and recruit a diverse range of food, beverage, and merchant vendors to enhance the overall festival experience

  • Identify and recruit a headlining artist for the event

  • Coordinate vendor setup and breakdown logistics, including assigning booth spaces and managing load-in/load-out schedules. We will have additional support for you on the day of the event

  • Maintain an updated database of potential vendors, considering

  • Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and insurance requirements are met by each vendor


Qualifications

  • Prior event coordinator experience with a proven track record of success

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent written & spoken communication skills

  • Excellent relationship-building skills


Benefits

  • Time Commitment: 8-10 hrs/wk until May 2024

  • 1099 Contractor

  • 100% Remote, Bay Area preferred

  • $15-25/hr depending on experience
